Prunus Cerasus
What's a cherry tree's latin name?
Prunus avium
wild cherry
the prunus is a genus of fruit trees and shrubs such as peaches, cherries and plums.
litterally:
cerasus comes from the Greek 魏畏蟻伪蟽慰蟼
which shows that the C is pronounced with a K sound
prunus means plum tree, which shows how closely related the two fruits are (and also where we get the word prune from)
avium means remote or out of the way
