Where to find latin names of animals and plants?
WIKISPECIES is an on-line encyclopedia of all animal and plant species which, like Wikipedia, is still developing. It already serves as a powerful search engine for scientific taxonomic names. Just enter the name of your animal or plant in the Seach panel on the left of the screen, and you will get a plethora of links (Search Results), many of which will display the Latin name http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_P...
Reply:Here are two websites I use, especially for finding the taxonomy names of organisms (like Lepus saxatilis for a hare).
Only for the Kingdom Animalia: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/si...
All Organisms: (you just have to accept the terms, which is no cost and nothing bad)

Reply:Books such as Mammals of Texas or Peterson Guide books are good sources. However if you type the common name of the animal or plant in a search engine, you will undoubtedly find all the ones you need. There are also Check Lists of species for just about any creature on earth but you would need to go to a university library to access those.
