I know Ilex is the latin name for holly but has ilex any connection with Ivy?

Ivy's scientific name (well, most of what is called ivy, anyway) is Hedera.





The only connection I can come up with now is that both holly and ivy were sacred in pre-christian Europe, as they both are evergreen. So is mistletoe... but anyway...
