Does the Latin piano styling have a technical name ?

I listen to a lot of Afro-Cuban jazz etc...and the one of the most recognizable aspects is the piano that is maybe 4 or 5 notes that goes up two notes then down 3 and is repeated. I know this is not a lot to go on... but does this piano style have a technical name or is it simply "salsa piano" ? The bass usually has a similiar harmony.

Does the Latin piano styling have a technical name ?
The foreword of "The Latin Real Book" by Chuck Sher publications indicates that the term "salsa" is very broad ranging in meaning (not unlike the term "jazz"); I'm inclined to think you might be describing a montuno in the sense that the piano is playing a repeated, syncopated vamp; that term (montuno) is also used to designate a vamp section with vocal call-and-response.
