The Michelin Man's name is Bibendum. Latin I presume... What does it mean? ?

Has anyone ever seen a poster of the Michelin man in an automobile with a glass of champagne?

The Michelin Man's name is Bibendum. Latin I presume... What does it mean? ?
Bibendum is the gerondive of Latin verb bibere, drink.

Nunc est bibendum, it's time to drink. (the beginning of a famous Horace's poetry).

The motto of Michelin was "le pneu Michelin boit l'obstacle", "Michelin tyre drinks the obstacle"
Reply:I'm sure I saw it someplace. Might have been in Belgium at Auto World. My hubby has a few old ones. He works for the company so we have a few neat Michelin and Bib things around the house.

Did you know that tires use to be all white. They are only black now because they add carbon black to them so the rubber lasts longer. Synthetic rubber is a by product of oil being refined into gas and if the refineries are closed, like they were in Sept after the hurricanes, there isn't enough rubber to make tires. I'm sure you didn't know that.
