Which animal has the same english name as its nomenclature or latin name?
Hippopotamus.
Reply:The gorilla. In fact the genus and species name are the same, Gorilla gorilla. The common chicken has a similar latin name, Gallus gallus. This naming convention is peculair to Zoology. In Botany, it is not permissible to have a species whose genus name is the same.
BTW: almost all dinosaurs are known by their latin names. This is true of most other extinct animals.
