Hi is it possible to translate the name Harry Higgins in to latin?

Could anyone also add the name of a Roman regiment or similar that was based in Wales ? I want some ''special'' details to put on a Roman shield we have to make for school Thanks Also would any metal details have been in silver or bronze asI have seen both colours in phots but not sure what is the most accurate!

Hi is it possible to translate the name Harry Higgins in to latin?
Names don't generally translate. They do transliterate but since the Latin and English alphabets are so close 'Harry Higgins' in Latin is actually 'Harry Higgins' You could potentially Romanize the name by following the roman naming convention which was:

Praenomen - Nomen Gentile - Cognomen

That is in modern terms:

Given name - Gens (clan) name - Family name

Of note, the Cognomen was originally a sort of nickname, generally descriptive, based on some noticiable attribute. By the Republican era however, the cognomen had evolved into a hereditary title used to distingush between members of different families within the same gens.

Finally, the Legio II Augustia was active in Britannia and according to wikipedia based out of Wales.

Fran,

Unfortunately "differo" is a translation not of Harry the proper noun but the verb to harry meaning to harass or bother.
Reply:Differo Higgins

Harryus Higginus
Reply:Differo Higgins is a translation of Harry Higgins.

Segontium - Roman Caernarfon was based in Wales.

The Roman fort of Segontium was founded in AD77 and was garrisoned until about AD394. No other Roman fort in Wales was held so long.

Metal details would probably have depended on the rank of the soldier.

Lower soldiers in rank - bronze.

Higher in rank - silver.

Hope I helped.

Have a great day.
